Did anyone from here go? I see one 92 feature in my clubs photos:

  • That is my car in the middle of the pic. Received an MCA "Gold" Award in Unrestored. I drove it to Mesquite from Houston. There was another '92 from Ark and a '90 from N. Texas. Bought it last July, and I am the 5th private owner. Now has 30,400 miles. The previous owner had it in Mustang, OK last year.

Do you know if only Goodyear tires came on these cars? Could they have also had Michelin's? Got docked a point for wrong brand tires.

Was there a plastic (like credit card) warranty card as part of the owners documents?
  • The only way to tell 100% what tires came on the car from the factory would be either from the window sticker or there should be either a Michelin or Goodyear pamphlet in owners manual packet. Michelin XGT Z4 tires were standard factory issue on all 91-93 5.0L LX Mustangs. Size was 225/55/16. The Goodyear 225/55/16 ZR55's were a Performance tires option and were listed on the option side of the window sticker as something like BSW Performance Tire. It was a no cost upgrade. The ZR55's were standard on GT's and the XGT Z4's an all weather option for GT's.

Also, the build sheet could provide a clue. Although, I have seen quite some variations in the way it is listed.

  • Ray, your car is beautiful. I got to know it well when Roman owned it. Mustang Monthly was going to do a photo shoot with it, but the photographer was too late arriving and the owner had to head home.
  • Rayspony,
Mine does have the credit card like warranty card - I also recall these from a Ford I had in the late 80's.

As for tires, my build sheet, window sticker and letter from Ford all reflect the size and "Z" rating but no brand name. The window sticker shows all season tires as stock and the option side shows performance in the same size.

I do, however, have a warranty card from Good Year and had "gatorbacks" on the car until this week. They were the original OEM tires - and at 30,000 miles the tread looked good but the rubber looked beat.

I put some Cooper sport tires on and like the ride I get now. I was torn, but since I dont race the car and only use it like a Sunday driver I thought this was the best option.

  • My ltr from Ford shows P225/55 ZR x 16 BSW All Season Performance Tires

The sales brochure for the '92 Mustang shows those as standard on the 5.0 LX, while P225/55 ZR x 16 BSW Performance Tires were optional. These were standard tires on the GT.

I am still confused. Don't know if the LE option got the optional tires as part of the package or not. Maybe someone can help clarify.
  • It was a no charge option on top of the feature car package. Pretty much a matter of preference for the person ordering the car. Mine came originally with Michelins.
  • that is so weird. I've never noticed that before now.
