On a lighter note – a nice day out

Last weekend, we were driving through an urban area near where I live on our way to lunch and I spotted something off of the interstate in a parking lot. At first it looked like a car show with rows of cars but as I looked closer it appeared to be some sort of competition with cars driving on the far end of the lot through a cone arrangement. At first I thought, drifting! We took the next exit.

It turns out it was an autocross event. It seemed very well organized. Luckily, I had a camera so I snapped a few shots. My camera has a slow shutter release time so it was hard to catch the cars even though they weren’t moving that fast. There was one fox body there. Not the finest example I have ever seen but it was cool to see one.

Before we arrived I thought we would be in for seeing mostly imports. Of course, there were plenty of those but they had a whole range of cars; Vette’s, Porches, BMWs, Jaguars and a Lotus Elise. There was even a Volvo sedan. One of my favorites was this Merkur XR4Ti. I can’t remember the last time I saw one of these in my area. This one looked like it had 4 lug white pony wheels!

Of course, there was at least one late model Mustang.

They even had some cars of classic vintage. I know cars pretty well and could tell you the make and model of nearly every one there but this one has me puzzled. I know I have seen them before but for the life of me I can’t recall what it is. I think I had a Matchbox version when I was a kid. Can anyone out there help my memory?
