Ice White S550 Mustang and Mach-E

I recently went down a rabbit hole when my friend Tom sent me a link to a for sale listing for a 2022 Ice White Mustang GT which seemed to have an interesting history. This particular Mustang looked to have a build date that preceded the 2022 model year production as well as very low VIN and a window sticker which indicated it was a special build. More on this car later.

This conversation got me looking into more details on these cars which I haven’t thought about in a couple of years. I’ve only see a few out in the world and those have always been when I have been attending the Carlisle Ford Nationals which has a huge cross section of the Mustang community. I’ve never seen one in normal life. I have so many questions on these cars. How many are there? Does the enthusiast community regard them as special? Were they mostly special ordered by individuals or were they mostly built and sent to dealers as part of regular Mustang shipments?

It will take time to answer these questions but join me as I start down this rabbit hole.

Are they easy to find?

Tom and my discussion brought up a point that we had discussed at Carlisle in June 2024 and that is that there seem to be very few of these cars that were actually made. Some numbers have been thrown around but I have not confirmed them. In trying to understand just how many are out there, I started to search for sale ads to see what I could find.

I found a total of 5 listed for sale.

XXXXXXXXXXX100XX92022GT PremiumManualUS

I don’t know exactly what this says about how many there might be. I will keep trying to find more as there must be some reasonable number of them out there. The thing that occurred to me about the numbers which I have heard mentioned is that it seems unlikely that something like 20% of the total number of them would be for sale at one time.

Package availability

The next step I took was to learn more about the package, in general. I remember that original press release but many of the specifics escaped me. And, there were some things that the original press release didn’t say that turn out to be important details.

The Ice White Appearance Package was available for both the 2022 and 2023 model years. While I didn’t find any 2023’s which were for sale, I did find a Reddit post where an owner posted a picture of his 2023 car. This is a Canadian car and Canadian cars seem to have a respectable presence in my research process thus far.

In my searching I came across the specifics on these cars, I found out several facts about the Ice White Mustang through the ordering guides for 2022 and 2023 which are still available online. From them, we can see that the Ice White Appearance Package was available for the Mustang GT with package 401A and on the Ecoboost Mustang with package 201A for both 2022 and 2023.

It wasn’t available without either of these two packages.

Decoding the details

Having found some cars for sale which were well documented, I learned more from the window stickers and the vehicle certification labels. On the Monroney sticker, the Interior color name is listed as UNIQUE WHITE LTHR SEAT TRIM which faithfully follows the naming used in the ordering guide.

On the VCL, we see the interior trim code as ‘8P’ which should be useful in uniquely identifying these cars. In conjunction with this, the exterior paint code of ‘YZ’ is somewhat helpful in confirming the car but Oxford White was widely available on the Mustang in 2022 so, by itself, it is not much help.

Package Pricing

Comparing the Monroney stickers for cars from U.S. vs Canada we can learn that the U.S. price for the Ice White Appearance Package was $1,995 USD and the Canadian price was $2,995 CAD.

For reference, when these cars were announced, the conversion rate from USD to CAD was 1 USD = 1.266 CAD meaning that $1,995 USD converted to $2,526 CAD.

And, there’s that one that seems pretty unique

Getting back to the conversation that started this, we were looking specifically at the car with the VIN ending in 100029. Knowing these last 6 numbers are the sequence number, this was a very early build for the 2022 Mustang never mind for any special version of it. The CarFax for this car shows a build date of 11/6/2021 (while the Monroney shows 7/15/2022). One source indicates that 2022 Mustang production began on 1/3/2022. If the Carfax is correct, this would make this a pre-production car.

The CarFax indicates the first owner as “Corporate Fleet” and, in further support that this is a unique car, the Order Type on the Monroney sticker is ‘Y’. Order type ‘Y’ indicates a car which was a special order and may contain features and options not generally available on a standard production model.

This car seems like it might indeed have a special story. As I write this, that car is no longer for sale.

What about the Mach-E?

In a discussion about the Ice White Appearance Package, I can’t forget to mention the Mach-E version.

I’ve yet to find for sale many Mach-E’s with the Ice White Appearance Package. Actually, I only found one. With that, here’s what I do know.

The Ice White Appearance Package was only offered on the 2022 Mach-E. There was no 2023 offering of this package. From the U.S. Ordering Guide, the package consisted of the following –

And from the Canadian Order Guide –

The Canadian Ordering Guide does not mention the Gloss White Dashboard Insert nor the Unique Oxford White Steering Wheel Pony Badge. But, I did find one Ice White Mach-E for sale and it was a Canadian model and did include those features.

While I was a little disappointed by my perception of the enthusiast view of the Ice White Mustang, I totally feel that there was even less enthusiasm for these Mach-E’s. I think these are likely owned by people who wouldn’t even realize there was anything special about it other than it being a “modern-looking” trim package nevermind the tie-in to a 30+ year old car.

Boss move – owning both a Mustang and Mach-E both with the Ice White Appearance Package.

Conclusion

Through this process I couldn’t help but feel the original feeling I had when I first started to research the fox-body feature cars. That was a feeling of discovery in assembling the facts in a way that no one had done before. There is much more out there on the Ice White Feature Package then there ever was for the Feature Mustangs and that feeds the data gathering part of my personality.

I hope to continue this search. If you have any thoughts or information on the Ice White Appearance Package please share in the comments. If you own a Mustang or Mach-E variant, I’d love to hear your experience. Did you order it? Was it just there on the dealer lot? Did you but it because it had this package? What do you think about it?
