Mustang production numbers (2022 and more)
I mentioned in my review of NMVTIS that I’ve been extensively looking at Mustang VINs. One project has led to another and soon I had been trying to figure out the VIN for every 2022 Ford Mustang. And then every 2023 Mustang followed by every 2021 Mustang.
It’s been a long process. I’ve been using publicly available data to determine all that I can about Mustang VINs and, thus, production numbers. I don’t want to say exactly what sources I have been using for fear that they might tighten the access to them. But, I will say that this in no way includes proprietary information. It is all publicly available to anyone reading this article and was assembled without using unauthorized credentials. None of it came directly from Ford.
I’ve focused this article on 2022 since that is where I started. I don’t think that this information is available anywhere else at this same level. This is why I thought I’d share it.
I cannot guarantee that this information is correct. But, it is a good approximation of the relative quantities of Mustangs produced across different body styles, engines, drive configurations and export destinations. This is the summary which I have produced so far –

There are several caveats on the correctness of this data –
- It does not represent actual Ford sales data. It may include pre-production cars. I can’t tell if a car is pre-production only that it exists (or has existed when considering those pre-preproduction cars which were never allowed to be sold and thus destroyed).
- While it might include pre-production cars, it might not include all pre-production cars. If a car never showed up on any system, I can’t detect that it existed.
- It doesn’t differentiate US vs. Canadian sales and delivery. Traditionally, Ford U.S sales are what were widely reported.
- It might be missing cars which have never been registered and/or have never been entered into any government or car history system.
For the above reasons, this won’t agree with other published information on these numbers such as the number of Mustangs Ford sold, the number of Mach 1’s produced or the number of GT 500’s.
This is the spreadsheet from which the above chart comes and which I will keep up to date with the latest data. I promise to keep updating this as I learn more and refine this.
Update 3/29/2024 – Added 314 Mach 1 RHD cars. None are Australian nor New Zealand cars.
Update 3/30/2024 – Added body type and engine codes to spreadsheet
