Changing Power Seat Motor

My power seat track doesnt move forward and back. The motor spins but the gear mechanisms that sit atop the large screws dont properly convert the motion of the motor, coveyed thru the black cables, into screw-turning action.
I bought a used replacement track but despite the fact that the replacement operates, its rusty and ugly, so I'd prefer to swap out the motors. Problem is, I dont know where to begin. Specifically, I cant tell whether, or how, one can seperate the black cables from the gearing mechanism. Can anyone help? Thanks, Dan
