On ebay: Monster Garage Switch Blade Mustang
Posted On December 4, 2008
I regularly search ebay for green 1990 Mustangs for my ebay auction tracking. Today I spotted the “Switch Blade” Mustang built on Monster Garage by Jesse James.
It was from the first episode of that show. I really liked that show when it first came on and I was a regular viewer.
Some quick research revealed that 42 of the Monster Garage cars were for sale earlier this year at the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction. This particular one sold for $7,300.

I saw that episode and it was a wild one! There is a 1/64 diecast replica of this green machine. Really cheap price for the unique ride.
The only value to the Monster Garage cars is through their connection to the shows and the B-J auction. I was at that Barrett Jackson Auction and saw the cars in person and in my opinion they were pretty much all junk.
@Ron: Agreed. They will never achieve automotive icon status. In 40 years no one will be wondering where they went. Heck, maybe not even in 5 years. It’s just fun to think back about how much I looked forward to that episode and how I cringed as they ripped that car apart.
How true. You know when they pulled that GT ragtop into the garage the ole girl was in pretty good shape. I feel the same about the destruction of the car. Horrible.
Yeah, it seemed like it wasn’t finished. Wires just hanging around and it seemed that a cumstom bike buider could have done better. I hated the rims too!
I watched that episode and frankly I was horrified at the way they ripped into that poor Mustang. The ‘build’ was pretty ugly to watch also. I pretty much gave up on watching the show shortly after that. Seemed to me that the series was more about propping up Jesse James than anything else.
It sold at Barrett Jackson for only $7300 and now he wants $10,000?
In response to Ryan’s posting, there is a 10% Buyer’s Premium as well as a substantial fee to even bid at Barrett Jackson. Then there is the transportation fee to Missouri so they may not even break even on the car.
The “hammer” price ($7300) doesn’t include the Buyer’s Premium and it was sold with a Bill of Sale only.
Oh, Good point Ron, I forgot all about that.
