1993 Ford Motorsport Nationals in Maple Grove PA – Was Your TWF There?
The large number of triple white feature cars present at the 1993 Ford Motorsport Nationals only recently came to my attention via the comments on a recent post. Ken (cobra2top) was kind enough to capture some of the images from his VHS recording of the event.
Ken shared:
They had approx. 50+ triple whites there. It is pretty amazing seeing a long line of them. At the end of the show they all drove down the drag strip. I remember they put a sticker over the 5.0 badges with the FMSN logo on all of the cars.
I suspect that many of these cars still are wearing their decals. One appeared on ebay in June 2006.
Whenever I see cars on ebay claiming to be “such and such” I always get suspicious. And, that is the main purpose of this post. Most times there is no documentation proving the claims. Heck, we even have trouble producing official documention that our cars are special for being feature cars. Now we know that the presence of this decal does mean that the car was part of something special.
If you have any information on these cars or this event, please share! I will pass along any information I gather as I continue to look into this.
I’ll try and get you better pictures and will dig around to see if I took my film camera back then. I can not believe that show was 15 years ago and I was able to find this!! If you have a Fox Body Recognition Guide you will see a picture of the 1st Annual Motorsports National in 1985 on page 101. You can make out a sticker above the 5.0 and they claim there was 200! I will have to go back but the picture here I am standing right in the middle of the features. There was a similar row behind me so I wonder how many actually were there. I will pull out the video again and see if I can try and get a better count.
That is very cool. To see all lined up must have been something else. Some other organizations also must have been on the “decal” kick, in the book Mustang Special Editions by Brad Bowling and Jerry Heasley they show a picture from the 1987 Motorsport Nationals and it has 30 to 40 of each color Red, White and Blue brand new Mustang GT’s lined up for display at the event and all have a sticker affixed to the passenger side front fender that reads “Ford Motorsport Nationals Special Edition”. According to the write up the cars were sponsored by Qualitiy Plus Ford Dealers of the Philadelphia District and once the event was over the cars went to local dealerships and were sold to the public. Take care. Chet
i bought my car new, and it was 1 of 2 the dealer had. at the time, if i am not mistaking the dealer told me they had 300 at maple grove, i don’t know if that is fact or not
