[Archived] For Sale: 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible (38k miles)

This car is not quite as rare as a feature car but it is a well preserved part of Mustang history.

1991 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible

  • Transmission: 5 speed manual
  • Exterior: Bright Red w/white top
  • Interior: Scarlet Red cloth
  • 38,800 miles
  • Price: $10,000

Highlights –

  • All original paint
  • Original top
  • Stock except for exhaust (car has a Ford 2 1/2″ exhaust which, I had been given the impression, might be from a ’94/95 5.0).
  • Notable factory options: 3:08 axle ratio, AM/FM cassette stereo with equalizer

Ready to drive or show. Paint looks great and shows extremely well. See pictures for cosmetic details. Most of what is pointed out is not noticeable except in the right lighting conditions. Never in an accident. All body panels have correct VIN label. The car has a very small number of rock chips and scratches. The original top has some signs which show its age. It does have some light discoloring as pictured. From an operation and alignment perspective, it is excellent.

The A/C does not blow cold – it does otherwise operate. It is the original R-12 system having never been converted. Everything else on the car is in 100% working order. The car has an aftermarket alarm.

I am the fourth owner having purchased it in July 2011. Prior to my ownership, the car spent its life in Michigan beginning in 1991 where it was sold by Varsity Ford. It was ordered as an “A Plan” vehicle which is the employee pricing plan. There is a name (first initial and last name) on the window sticker which would be the person for which it was ordered. While I have owned it, it has been used primarily for cruises and car shows. This includes everything from local to national shows. It went to Carlisle in 2013 and made the trip without incident. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive the car anywhere. Before that trip to Carlisle I had my mechanic go through the car and the only thing that was required was to adjust the parking brake.

While I have had the car I have replaced the aftermarket battery with a Motorcraft BXT-58 (July 2012), replaced the cooling fan (July 2012 – original was showing signs of cracking) with the updated, crack resistant F3ZZ-8600A, replaced the aftermarket belt with a correct Motorcraft part. I can provide the complete maintenance records from during my ownership. Every service has been done with an eye to keeping the car as correct as possible.

Includes:

  • Red convertible boot
  • Cargo net
  • Owners manual
  • Original window sticker
  • Marti report
  • Varsity Ford license plate frame (from 2011).
